Outdoor Cat House For Multiple Cats

Interested in an outdoor cat house for multiple cats, I got onto the internet and searched for the term on Yahoo Answers and these are few of the questions I found.

Outdoor Cat House For Multiple Cats

outdoor cat house for multiple cats

In a house of multiple cats, why do they often get into serious, fur-ripping fights?

I have four cats (Yeah, 'yeesh!' right?) in my household, three being unexpected rescues who my mother got attached to, and the fourth being an expected pet. Two of those rescued cats are six year old brothers, one tabby and one Russian Blue, while the third rescued cat is a one year old black Tiffany/Chantilly female. My fourth cat, however, is ten years old, and has lived with me the longest considering that he was a birthday present of mine in my childhood. This elder of a cat is the sheriff of our Townhouse and the guard-dog of our home, and despite being a moderate-sized ginger and white with a sweet, friendly demeanour, he chases off any animal he can tackle with a fearlessness that I fear will soon get him killed. He has shared our home with the two brothers for six years, and the new female addition has lived here for only one, but all have gotten along just fine until about eight months ago, save for a few 'arguments,' if you will. All these cats are fixed, by the way, but they are indoor-outdoor cats, too.

Now, I've been told by a cat-breeder that house cats don't set social standards between alpha males and clan-status, but I find this untrue from the behavior I've been seeing. My oldest cat [Cinnamon] has been constantly attacking the two brothers, even going as far as attacking my small one-year old female when she's simply basking in the sun. His favorite target is my Russian Blue [Onyx] who is the weakest link out of the cats because of how he rarely fights back [my young female even bosses him around, and she's half his size]. These fights are NOT playful. Fur is always in the air, small scars are sometimes left, and the screams from the fights are as bloodcurdling as two strays going at it like wolves.

Now, this charade stopped for a short period of time, until one of the larger brothers [Egypt] has been taking it upon himself to attack Cinnamon now, or even purposely provoking him into attacking him. My female [Zaiema] usually stays out of it all and watches like a deer caught in headlights. But the night that my cats were fighting in my bedroom – with the seclusion of my female – was like a dog-pile. Hair was left everywhere on my carpet and I even saw a bit of blood stained there as well. I can NOT understand these bipolar patterns they lapse into, and want to know if anyone else has ever encountered this with a house of multiple cats who have lived under the same roof for years on end, and our just now acting out so viciously. I'm not exactly sure if one is trying to take the 'throne' of the other or what, but it isn't a normal hissy-fight.

I went and looked for reasons why your cats might be doing this and since you feel that its not for play I came up with these reasons.

-Sexual Aggression-which is more common in neutered cats over territory and over dominance. The article suggests scruffing to discourage cats from fighting.
-Redirected Aggression- which is because something happen to make your cat angry but they can't effect it so they turn on the cats that are around.

Methods to spot fighting
-Distraction
-Intervention (physical)
-Medication

Indoor/Outdoor Cat Enclosure?

There is this house that I might be moving into and me and my mom want to foster cats. There are two rooms on the third floor. A roof above the second story bathroom a patio roof above the first floor. I wanted to make an indoor/outdoor cat enclosure for 5 or 6 cats that could be in four areas. In where my office would be I want an enclosure on the two short sides of the room and an enclosed "cat walk" on the ceiling connecting them. On The one long side there is a closet a few inches from the corner and I want to cut a little door in the bottom and on the top shelf leading into the closet in the other room. I would want multiple platforms, ramps, etc. I want steps going up to top shelf in closet. In the other room on the long side, (Front to back of house- straight through) (The office is like the bedroom cut in half) I would have basically the same thing as the other room but one big enclosure. I would want to have a little kitty door leading onto the bathroom roof, (bathroom roof at same level as bedroom floor) with a tube leading to an enclosure on the patio roof, maybe 7ft tall and 4×4 lw…. Is this possible? How much do you think it would cost? Do you think I will need a permit? It is in a small town and the house is a twin. Any advice would help!!!

Thanks

I would almost guarantee that you will need some sort of permit. The cities I have been in even try to limit the number of housepets to just 4 or 5. A fostering setting will probably be more than they will want you to do without telling them.

The construction would depend on how much of it you can build, have a handy friend help with, or need to hire a pro to do.

“It’s a horrible situation and I don’t know what the solution is either,” said one animal welfare worker who is familiar with the property but who asked not to be identified. “I don’t know that volunteers would be willing to step into that situation again.”

“I would say it is a significant problem, but at the same time, when people talk about it, there seems to be this sense that it is just an overwhelming problem and they don’t see what can be done about it. I get the sense it is sort of an uphill battle,” said veterinarian Dr. Kathy Kallay, of Four Paws Animal Hospital and Wellness Center in Fredericksburg.

“When we drove up to the company’s property we were surrounded by cats ranging in ages between newborn to emaciated adults,” she said. “There were adult cats staggering towards our car. A few groups of adults were procreating and fighting.”

Outdoor Insulated Cat House – Why Does Your Cat Need It?

If your cat is a loveable wild animal, it will not sit quietly at home. It would feel good just playing and roaming outside the house, and you can even expect it to sleep anywhere. To keep a feline pet like that, and spoil it at the same time, you need an outdoor cat house. You can even install an open type house and help protect the neighbourhood stray and feral cats. You can do all this by placing an insulated outdoor cat house in your back yard.

A cedar wood insulated outdoor cat house not only keeps your cat warm in winter and the sometimes freezing cold months, it provides a cool place to relax in during the hot summer months. Install the optional heating pad and your cat will love you all the more. He or she would have a warm resting place in your back yard after their roaming about or play in the open.

An insulated outdoor cat house is a place for your kitty to be safe, warm and comfortable outside the house until you return. With a durable design cedar wood outdoor cat houses also make ideal shelters for the wild feral or abandoned cats. You may not be able to provide refuge for these helpless animals inside your house, but you can give these cats their own house outside yours.

Things to Consider Before Buying an Outdoor Pet House

Pets prefer staying outside. It is a fact that you can not deny. If you are a pet owner then you must have noticed that your pet prefers staying in the backyard than staying within the four walls. This is the reason that you should opt for an outdoor pet house. Your dog or cat will enjoy staying in its own place rather than staying inside the house.

One more reason of choosing an outdoor pet house can be that your house is not spacious enough to accommodate your pet. Even if your pet can stay inside it is better to opt for an outdoor pet house, because your pet would appreciate it.

If you are a first time owner, you can feel that a buying an outdoor pet house is an expensive affair. It needs to have excessive space and advanced features. But this is a misconception. You may need a big pet house depending on the size of your breed. If you have an Alsatian, opting for a big dog house will be a wise decision. However it is not true for each and every breed.

Pet houses include no complexities. A durable roof, sturdy walls, a screen and proper ventilation are all that you need for your pet house. A pet house with all these features can be considered as a good outdoor cat house.

Outdoor Cat Houses

If your cat spends a lot of time outside the house, whether that is due to the fact the value their freedom or since your not home to let them in, you can spend lots of time being worried about whether or not they may be safe, whether they have found out some shelter from the latest weather or whether they’re pawing at the door for the reason that like to come home.

If you do not have a cat flap set up then your other alternative is to offer them a place safer for them to relax and sleep such as a shed or garage. However, if they don’t have one they can access when they want to, then the most suitable option is an outdoor cat house. There are a number at the marketplace. Some are far better quality than others.
